In 2014, Lina Esco produced a film called “Free The Nipple,” which sought gender equality in allowing women to bare their chests as men are permitted to do. If you’ve ever been on a nude beach, you know that the vibe is more freedom than sex – it really isn’t fair that women can’t take their shirts off in public if they want to.
Some areas have more permissive laws, and it’s common knowledge that nothing bad happens in those places. Clothing optional beaches and clubs, naturist hotels and communities and the like don’t have any higher incidence of crime or violence than anywhere else.
It boils down to a matter of personal liberty – there was a time when a woman who let people see her ankles was considered a floozy. Cultural boundaries may shift, and many women seek the flexibility to take their shirts off if they please. It sounds right to me.
